Hippo Ballerina Cake Topper 9:00am-1:00pm
In this 4 hour hands-on class students will learn how to create a Hippo Ballerina cake topper. Students will begin by creating the armature to support the topper, then move onto sculpting the hippo with modeling chocolate. We will work with various sculpting tools to create realistic hippo features. Once our hippo is complete, we will use a few different techniques to color our hippo to give her depth and dimension. Lastly we will dress her in her beautiful pink tutu. These techniques can be used to create a variety of cake toppers.

Monika Stout is the owner of Truly Scrumptious Cakes in Encinitas, California. She spent years as a graphic designer, working at a drafting table with T-square and triangle, assembling the then-complex layers of commercial art. But, with the move to computers, she missed working with her hands to create something beautiful. She took a cake decorating class with the aim of making original cakes for her children. Once she began, however, she realized that this is what she was born to do! Over the last ten years Monika has been lucky enough to build a successful custom cake shop where she creates one-of-a-kind works of sugar art. She has also been teaching cake decorating classes for the last 6 years. Monika has been featured in Cake Masters Magazine as well as participated in several collaborations such as Sweet Fairy Tales, Sugar Myths and Fantasies, Birthday Mischief Managed, Woodland Fairies and many more. Monika has competed in cake shows across the country and has won Best in Show for four consecutive years at the San Diego Cake Show. Monika also won Cake Wars Season 4 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Episode on Food Network.
